Last week I promised I would write you again, with some tips on how to get your bird to stop being afraid of objects, like the stick used to pet your bird.

So here's just that...

I spend a lot of time, and cover even more tactics with my students on this exact issue when it comes to getting parrots to overcome the fear of certain props. But the principal is simple, you use the 'click' and reward technique I teach in my audio sessions to reward your parrot for getting closer and closer to the item you want him to stop fearing.

You do NOT move the object closer to the bird, and you always try to keep your parrot from being scared. Now obviously there are dozens of strategies for getting your bird to do this, but one is to simply wait it out... Let your bird wander about the cage top or training table on his own free will, and my students are amazed when they simply click and reward when the bird looks at, steps towards and eventually touches the object they used to fear. And you can start it from any distance. Even if your parrot won't let the object within 5 feet, you can still click and reward him for getting closer and closer, and eventually he'll touch it! It's a powerful tool and one worth putting into your repertoire.

Let me know how it works for you,

Best Wishes,
