The Cute Conures

Green Cheek Conure

The Green-cheeked has coloring very similar to the Maroon-bellied Conure, but can be distinguished by the reddish upper surface of its' tail feathers. It has a green body with blue primary flight feathers and a maroon tail. The scallop feathers on the chest and upper neck are fringed with white. There is purple on the belly and the beak and the ear covers are brown. These birds tame very easily and are very sociable. The Pyrrhuras are a quieter Conure than the Aratinga species making them an easier pet to live with. However, they are not known to be great talkers. In the wild they are very sociable with other green-cheeks. Often they forage in groups and spend the night sleeping together.

Janday Conure

The Janday Conure is quite striking with its beautiful colors.  Sometimes there is confusion between the Janday Conure and the Sun Conure but you can easily identify the Janday by its green wings and back, while the Sun has mostly yellow wings.   A super sweet bird, the attractive Janday Conure is very sociable and makes a very tame and loveable companion. They love to "talk", and yes, they are rather noisy little creatures. Being very active, they enjoy playing with toys, climbing, and chewing. Their antics can be very comical and at the same time they are very affectionate.  These are also called "Jenday Conures"

The head is black, along with the cheeks and throat, which looks like a cap. The rest of the body is green, the throat and breast are blue, and the feet are red.   Mature birds are about 11-12 inches long and weigh 5.2 ounces.  As with many Aratinga species, the Nanday Conure or Black-hooded Parakeet can be noisy, they have a high pitched screech that can be annoying.

Costi, Peach-fronted Conure!

Peach- Fronted Conure

The Peach-fronted Conure has a grayish-green back with a lighter green (olive) color on the breast. The forehead and part of the crown are bright orange. The rest of the crown is blue-green. There are black tips on the wings and blue tips on the tail. The beak is black. They are similar in appearance and size to the three subspecies of Orange-fronted Conures (see the Half-Moon Conure) but have a smaller black beak rather than horn colored, and their colored frontal band is larger. As with many Aratinga species, Peach-fronted Conures can be noisy, though not nearly as noisy as most Aratinga species.  These birds get up to 10"

Dusky Conure

Also known as the Weddell's Conure, the Dusky Conure belongs to the parrot family. It has a green body and a gray-brown head. The tips of the feathers on the top of the head have a bluish cast, the legs are gray. They grow to about 11 inches. Younger birds are duller in color and their belly is green turning more yellow as they age. The ends of the primaries and tail feathers are blue.  This bird is not nearly as noisy as most Aratinga species.

"Widget" a Sun Conure

Sun Conure

The Sun Conure, a small member of the parrot family, is one of the most colorful of the Conures. Their nice personalities and their gorgeous coloring make them a favorite pet. There are a variety of Conures, and most make excellent pets. They vary in coloring and size, the Nanday Conure, for example, is a larger Conure with a black head and green body. For a smaller bird and a great pet, a Conure is a great choice.

Golden-Capped Conure

The bird is mainly dark green with a front of the crown yellow or dark red. The back of the head and neck are a yellowish light green. These birds make a very warm and friendly pet. Great for people of all ages.

"Lola" is a Red-masked Conure, also referred to as a Cherry-headed Conure or Red-headed Conure!

Red Masked Conure

Besides being very intelligent and loveable, the Red-masked Conure or Cherry-headed Conure is a real clown and loves to show off. They are easy to tame and are good talkers. They do however have a grating call and can get quite loud. They also love to play and chew, so be sure to provide them with lots of wooden toys to keep them well occupied.  This Conure has a beautiful green plumage that is paler and more yellowish on the underside. Except for the back half of the cheeks the whole head is red, completely encircling the eyes and often on the throat and neck as well. There is also red on the shoulders, underside of the wings and the thighs. The eye is yellow surrounded by a naked, creamy white eye ring. The beak is horn colored and the legs are gray.
